Mrs. B over at Cherish the Home has an excellent article posted that looks at the crucifixion of Jesus from a medical perspective. It is honest and graphic, but worth the read.
Sometimes in our churches we kind of gloss over the physical pain that Jesus experienced on our behalf. We use the phrases like flogging and crucified, but don't explain those terms. And the Roman empire had this process down to a brutal and merciless form of torturous death.
As hard as the article is to read, it is well written, and does not seek the shock value, it seeks honesty. I highly recommend it for reading in preparation for Good Friday.
