Sick, or Multitude Monday Midweek Edition

I am sick with a touch of the flu - only one in the family. Which is kind of ironic because I am the only one who got the flu shot this year. Sigh.

I was having a rotten attitude and nap time was ending and I realized I needed a perspective check or it was going to be a rough afternoon.

And I started counting the gifts.

  • warm quilt
  • cold sprite
  • excellent book followed by excellent book
  • beautiful view out the window
  • clouds running across my window

  • the bright sun against the dark clouds
  • little girls waking up singing Jesus Loves Me...
  • ...and wondering where her socks went
  • kisses from the big one to make me feel better
My attitude improved tremendously.

Multitude Monday 28

I am loving doing this every week! Somehow last year when I started I was not exactly on top of things with Miss Pear's heart surgery, husband's job change, and moving and whatnot. But now that I am doing this every week it is having a HUGE impact on my outlook on things!

Monday January 31
  • A morning upstairs at my desk to get caught up on stuff while...
  • ...my MIL plays with the girls
  • A friend stopping by to pick up some books for tomorrow morning and completely cheering me up from my "I feel yucky and the girls are sick too" funk.
Tuesday February 1
  • MIL making a delicious supper
  • 2 sick girls finally seeming on the mend
  • The lovely option of just staying home today and hibernating!
Wednesday February 2
  • Being a little slower to get out of bed this morning (did I mention my MIL rocks!)
  • My MIL
  • Awesome Bible study resources online! Strongs, Lexicons, tons of translations!
Thursday February 3
  • Costco shopping with help
  • All the errands run and home by 11AM
  • Turkey roller sandwiches from Costco and carrot sticks for lunch - I love those little sandwiches and hardly ever buy them so it is a great treat!
  • My reading girl who team read
  • Because a Little Bug Went Ka-Choo! with me!....
  • ....accompanied by lots of snuggles!
Friday February 4
  • Silliness in the kitchen with Grandma helping the girls make chocolate cake
  • It only taking one simple phone call and one simple call back 20 minutes later to get a CD of Baby's x-rays sent to me - something that we thought we had worked out but did not, and that the new doctor could not get even with my signature that I thought would take all morning. Such a blessing!
Saturday February 5
  • Even though it is very sad to see my MIL go, she is coming back after we move to help with the last boxes and the nitty gritty details that she is so good at!
  • Out for lunch to cheer up sad little girls who love their grandma
  • Soft pillows, warm quilt, Bible.
Sunday February 6
  • Worshipping the Lord with our Church family
  • A little friend taking Lord's Supper for the first time!
  • A rainy day - yes, still a treat for me
  • Warm sweats, hot coffee, and a hockey game with my husband.
  • Quiet at home with my family.

Multitude Monday 27

Somehow last week I completely got confused as to what day of the month it was only to figure it out and be completely wrong.

Therefore, here is my list with no dates, but I did note things from each day...I think...

322. A fresh start to the week that feels like a fresh start in general

323. The delight of a 5 year old painting on canvas for the very first time!

324. The canvas creation gracing the living room, propped up on our piano....

325. ...and the delighted proud smiles of the artist.

326. The sale of our home appears to be moving right along. I am both excited and terrified.

327. A wonderful delivery of books.

328. Laughing at the eggplant disaster!

329. The joy of our CSA box being delivered to our door! No more trying to cross busy lanes of traffic to pick it up!

330. Prompting of the Lord to both more and deeper study. And the joy that is already bringing me!

331. Blood test- well, not actually the blood test, more the fact that she got it the first time, and it did not bruise - huge for me! Plus, I did not hyperventilate.

332. White chocolate mocha and donuts to share with my daughters to celebrate.

333. New children's books from grandma - she is so generous with us!

334. A book arriving from a dear friend! Such a treat from such a sweetie!

335. Dropping off the last of the paperwork to confirm that we are going forward with this house. The Lord has confirmed in so many ways that this is the house He has for us and has been so patient as we again and again have asked if this is the one.

336. Quilt fabric for Baby's big girl bed! (She is still in her crib though and is not even trying to crawl out, which is actually #337 now that I think about it!)

338. Perfect fabric for a certain 6 year old's birthday so that I can make napkins to match her theme!

339. And perfect fabric to make napkins for a friend's birthday that is coming up! It actually highlights an amusement that is very dear to both families!

340. My husband's mom's birthday is today and she is here to celebrate it. She is such a wonderful grandma that she insisted the girls help her open presents, and had more books for them, and was delighted with everything we did including.....

341. ...chinese food for supper...

342. ...and brownie with ice cream, whip cream and chocolate sauce for dessert.

343. The bone deep, heart confirmation that God really does love me.

January 17 - An offer we made on a house was accepted after a particularly amazing time of prayer.

January 18 - Our classical conversation community of dear friends.

January 19 - No change on a echogram which is both good and sad, but for the good I am thankful,

January 21 - a God who is big enough to bear my pain and tears, offering comfort when there is none to be found anywhere else.

January 22 - Fun family night after a day of just doing nothing but being home together

January 23 - Worshipping and praying with our Church family

Multitude Monday 24

January 3 - A dear friend calling with words to encourage us in our walk with the Lord.

-Dear little girls who want to play with Mommy's Christmas present - a Stomp Rocket

January 4 - A mother in law who really listens to me and hears what I say, and what I don't say.

- Miss Pear crying because she wants to be a good girl, she doesn't want to sin.

January 5 - Little girls tending my hurt hand with kisses and love

- The fact that I did not break my hand when I somehow bashed it into the doorframe while carrying a basket full of laundry.

- Homemade pasta for lunch (already made before the hand injury)

- My rice cooker - probably the only way we got supper that night. It saves me time all the time though.

January 6 - Little girls so eager to help mommy when she is injured.

- I did not break a single dish, and considering my clumsiness, that is amazing!

January 7 - Skating night went so well, Miss Pear is doing great! And seems to be building momentum in her ability! She is working so hard and having so much fun!

- Home safely in the rain with a quick stop for milk with the storm in the forecast.

January 8 - Waking up to bright sunny skies and news that the storm is delayed

- Clear roads for the trek to the airport to pick up my mother-in-law.

- A new snow shovel and de-icer, along with 2 child sized snow shovels and the two delighted girls who had to demonstrate how to use them...in the living room.

January 9 - Worship with our church family

- Following my daughter to the Lord's Supper knowing God has done a mighty work in her and is doing a mighty work in her.

- Listening to baby sing the Lord's prayer after she has been put to bed tonight

- The joy of a hot bath, a good book, and a cup of tea before bed.

Blessings 281 -299, and continually counting.

Multitude Monday 23

I count the blessings, the big and the small, the funny and the silly, and give thanks. The more I count the more I find and the bigger my heart feels, the greater the well of gratitude, the deeper the love for my Lord.

So each day I look for reasons to say thank you, and each day as I do I am reminded to be more vocal in my love for God and my family!

December 14 - We were safe and our power stayed on during a fierce wind storm. The wind was so strong that the rain sounded like hail as it pounded against our home.

December 15 - Wonderful surprise of Christmas place mats arriving in the mail!

December 16 - Baby said "I love you" all on her own, she initiated it, and followed it up with a hug.

December 17 - Big sister sharing her reading reward with her little sister because she is too young to learn to read yet and should not be left out!

December 18 - We are gifted with a piano that will be delivered tomorrow. It is a beautiful piano that is 105 years old.

December 19 - Baby says, "Worship, worship, I worship!"
Plus God prompted me to call and pray with a friend, and the timing was perfect, exactly what she needed.

December 20 - Buddy skate day with Miss Pear at her skating lesson! So much fun!
I stayed up to see the lunar eclipse and to wake everyone up. I sat reading my Bible at watching. Just as it was almost time for it to start the clouds moved in and we could not see anything! So I finished up reading and went to bed.

December 21 - Feeling so relaxed and Christmas is only a couple days away!
Plus a Christmas package we look forward to each year arrived! Despite the temptation I stashed it under the tree!

December 22 - Cookie baking afternoon - not that we need more cookies, we just wanted to!
Dear husband asks me what I need him to wrap, I say nothing, it is all done!

December 23 - Cookie decorating morning! We make a beautiful manger scene with mommy applying a layer of icing and the girls applying a layer of colored sugar!
Another special package arrives from friends!
The stack of Christmas cards

December 24 - The last 2 quilted Advent wreaths arrive. They are beautiful. Now both girls have their own and so do I!
Walking around during afternoon rest time looking for something to do - it is al done, and for the first time I know what it is like to be eagerly anticipating Christmas rather than racing to the finish
Christmas Eve service was beautiful and Miss Pear curled up next to me trying to sing a long to all the songs with her new reading skills.

December 25 - Jesus
The girls stopping in the middle of opening presents to sing songs to Jesus for His birthday.

December 26 - Miss Pear takes Lord's Supper for the first time, and we move our membership to our new church

December 27 - A day at home laughing, playing, and being silly - such a joy!

December 28 - The gift of my family

December 29 - Snow! But it stayed warm enough that we could pick up our CSA Box!

December 30 - The girls continuing joy in snow - they had not played in it or even scene it in person until we moved here.

December 31 - Chinese Food to Celebrate!

January 1 - Rose Bowl Parade
NHL Winter Classic hockey game
All the decorations come down

January 2 - Buttermilk pancakes, little girl smiles and husband's jokes

January 3 - A husband who does not feel great, but uncomplaining goes to work to provide for our family.

Numbers 249-280 and counting.

Multitude Monday 22

I lost my little list I keep during the week, something new I was doing, so this list is just off the top of my head!

237. Christmas shopping is done, we are just waiting for a couple orders to arrive

238. ...and the presents that need to be shipped are all gone except for 1 that is awaiting its second half, which is arriving on Wednesday.

239. ...and most of the presents are wrapped and under the tree, but that is mostly thanks to my favorite store that wraps everything for you but has excellent prices!

240. The Christmas tree has been up for almost 2 weeks and has not been completely redecorated by little people. Admired and touched, yes, but only 2 ornaments were removed.

241. The Christmas cards with pictures are ordered, the list of who will get them is prepared with addresses, so the hardest is done.

242. We did find a light up angel for our window. I am still on the look out for a nativity, but that can wait for next year.

243. Little girls who seem to grasp firmly that Christmas is about a lot more than gifts...

244. ...who are enjoying celebrating Advent and looking forward to Jesus' birthday.

245. A husband who likes to surprise me!

246. That we found rubber boots for all the girls in the house and new work shoes for my husband for Christmas, but he has them already because he could not wait.

247. A beautiful quilted Advent calendar where you add pieces to make a nativity that just arrived in the mail today - such a beautiful and special gift.

248. The indescribably Gift.

Totally forgot to post this last week until Wednesday, so I just continued adding....

194. She also asked if I would be interested in organic fuji apples at $0.60 a pound. Did I mention they were organic? I tried to not jump and down and squeal with delight as I requested a case.

206. The hugs of daughters.

207. The understanding of my husband who took care of so much when I was sick last week and kept sending me to bed early as he did dishes and tidied up.

Multitude Monday 17

holy experience

I fell off the Multitude Monday bandwagon when Monday was also Bible in 90 Days check in day, and let's face it, on a Monday a gal can only do so much! But I have to confess, having a thankful heart is much easier when you are writing it down throughout the week to post on Monday morning. But this one is written all in one sitting before I hit publish, so it should be interesting., but more importantly, it is a return to purposefully giving thanks in the craziness of life, of Monday.

171. A husband who knows I cannot do it all and while I was cleaning the bathroom Saturday came in to chat with me and while doing so cleaned the entire shower.

172. A husband who saw the gorgeous Le Creuset pot at Costco and bought it for me because he knows I love to cook, especially for our family, and love Le Creuset. It's new home is sitting on the stove, it is beautiful.

173. A daughter who wanted to wear the split skirt in her closet simply because I made it for her. She then asked what we could make next. She was thinking of something for her little sister.

174. My littlest who is not so little any more who came running up to me, turned her little face up to me and said, "kiss!"

175. The crew of construction vehicles that pulled up Friday to start preparing the lots in our neighborhood for new homes. The girls are so happy to watch - there are nose and finger prints all over the windows and I am thrilled.

176. Little girls who think I am a genius and want to help me with everything.

177. A loving God who gave me this wonderful family!

178. ...and who meets me in my weakness...

179. ...and who gives me a desire to do better in the most important roles in my life and then helps me.

180. A church family who understands that teaching children to worship is an act of worship and encourages us in that.

181. Another day to love God, love my family, and grow in grace.

Multitude Monday 16

holy experience

157. Ordinary Time. According to our pastor we are at the time in the church calendar called ordinary time. It is not Advent, Lent, we are not waiting for Pentecost. It is ordinary. And God is in it.

158. Miss Pear explaining scripture this morning. A little heart that gets it, it was sweet, it was funny, and I am pretty sure God was smiling...unless He was laughing really really hard!

159. The chance to talk to a couple at church whose unborn baby needs lots of prayer and offer some love and encouragement.

160. The chance to share my homemade bread with a family at church where the wife is having chemotherapy.

161. Being able to look out my windows and see the snowy mountains.

162. The little nose and finger prints of little people who were curious to look out too.

163. Celebrating Father's Day with my husband who really makes me want to celebrate.

164. Being encouraged to try new things by my husband who is my biggest cheerleader and when I ask if he is really sure about trying this he always says that he is because what is the worst that can happen? I always think that is a great point and go for it.

165. A bookshelf JUST FOR HOME SCHOOLING STUFF! Such a blessing.

166. A bigger shelving unit that is also stronger to hold my pantry items in the garage (we live in the Pacific Northwest where no one even has A/C, I don't anticipate it being a problem!)

167. New friends who are happy to see us and miss us if we are not there.

168. Old friends who miss us and call.

169. A God who is older than time, who is always there, and whose mercies are new every morning.

170. Being able to listen to my oldest sing Holy, Holy, Holy and my youngest do her best to sing the chorus of Jesus Loves Me...while she dances.

Multitide Monday 15

holy experience

145. Yesterday was our 11th anniversary. On one hand so much has happened, and we dated for over 4 years before getting married that it seems like it should be longer somehow, but on the other hand it seems like it was yesterday. Regardless, ours is a happy marriage and I am grateful.

146. We were able to go out just the two of us for supper even though the girls both had colds because my MIL was here to stay with the girls.

147. We went to one of our all time favorite restaurants! This is a big deal because they did not have them in California, but I guess we are just close enough to Canada.

148. Even though both girls had terrible colds they are on the mend.

149. We had donut day on Friday and it was tons of fun!

150. Miss Pear had an appointment with the new pediatician for her 5 year check up. When we talked about referrals to cardiologists the doctors was thinking through names and said that Miss Pear is TOO HEALTHY to see her favorite one as he is an interventionists, taking just the hard cases....we cheered!

151. More boxes are emptied and we really are down to the nitty gritty.

152. This new home is really starting to feel like home.

153. We sold our old home a couple weeks ago, it closed a few days late due to the lenders being late on providing paperwork, but it closed, and we are incredibly grateful.

154. I ordered most of the homeschooling supplies we need for kindergarten. There may still be a few add ons, but the bulk will be here late this week and then we can sit down, spread it out, and make decisions on the last little things. The big job part is done!

155. We hear that the libraries here are great, and plan to check into that this week!

156. God is faithful.

Multitude Monday 14

holy experience

This year I knew what I was getting for Mother's Day, in fact, I got it early!

131. We moved to our new home as a family, I did not stay behind to sell the house, my husband did not go ahead to start work. My husband did come up for 2 nights to find our new home, but that was all the separation. We moved as a family, we stayed together.

132. We stayed together - our family does much better when we are together. When Daddy returns home at the end of the day you would think he was gone for weeks the way he is greeted. We are funny that way. We love being together.

133. Plus my family made all the meals, and a cake for me.

134. They did not do the dishes at the end of the day, just like I asked. I asked for them to be left, dishes can be washed any time, but let's play now. So opposite of what I usually do, the usual let's get the work done so we can play. A special treat.

But there was one gift I did not expect or know about, one gift that not even my husband knew about:

135. While the details are just for us, our almost 5 year old made it clear that Jesus is her's, and she is His. No prompting, nothing fancy, just the innocent questions and words of a child with Love in her heart.

136. A small glimpse from the Father that the seeds we carefully and deliberately sow into our daughters are already yielding great fruit. Such encouragement. Such confirmation of the words that apply for parenting: Do not let your hands grow weary, do not tire of doing good.

137. I have a family who loves God and each other.

We moved, and

138. We love our new home.

139. We can see the snow covered mountains out the windows! Something I always wanted, but had only told God.

140. We live so close to my husband's work that he can come home for lunch any time he wants.

141. Miss Pear is delighted that she can see "Christmas Trees" growing outside her window. For a girl who has only lived in Southern CA, this is huge.

142. We have a lovely yard for the girls to play in. Yesterday I put bubbles in the water table while we were playing outside and they had great fun flinging them around the yard.

143. We may have found our new Church home already. We love it, and plan on continuing to attend. If the Lord confirms this is the one, we will take the membership class in October. (Yes, we will take that long, we will not rush.)

144. The Lord moved us to a new home, a new city, a new state, and is already helping us to love it.

Multitude Monday 13

holy experience

It has been a while since I posted for Multitude Monday, and it most certainly is not for lack of material or an ungrateful heart, it has been for lack of time to be still and reflective as well as on the computer at the same time!

119. My girls are healthy, and each day they get stronger. A miracle! Every day a miracle.

120. We were able to help the Children's Hospital where our girls were treated by being interviewed for their donor letter. Each direct mail piece raises between $125,ooo and $250,ooo. We are able to help make a difference.

121. The Children's Hospital here is helping us find the specialists we need at the Children's Hospital we are moving near.

122. The Children's Hospital we are moving near is an excellent hospital. While I pray that our girls health problems are behind them, should they need care it will be excellent, and they will have great doctors for their continued follow up care.

123. We sold our home. The first day on the market we got an offer, the second day on the market we got a second offer late that night, and the third day on the market we signed the second offer. We opened escrow this past Friday.

124. We have had wonderful neighbors here who we love dearly.

125. The new people buying our home already love it and the fruit trees we so carefully planted and loved.

126. Our neighbors have all agreed to lie to us if the new owners of our home pull out the fruit trees! :-) Yes, it would make me very sad if they did, but it truly sounds like they love them.

127. My wonderful husband is looking for a home for us to rent for a year so we have time to learn the area before we buy a new home. He has spent hours and hours researching and making calls. Now he is up there looking for us while I have the luxury of staying home with the girls, confident that he will find a great home for us.

128. The Lord blessed me with a husband who loves his family and takes wonderful care of us.

129. The Lord has provided abundantly in ways I could not see at the time during our time in Southern California.

130. The Lord is good, always.
