Submission - Ephesians 5

So often submission is treated like an unbearable thought, and that point of scripture is skipped over if at all possible.

Which is sad because when I read Ephesians 5 I am pretty sure that us ladies get the better end of the deal.

However, yesterday, as part of the second hour class at Church, there was a quote that put the call for a wife to submit to her husband in proper perspective. (As opposed to the oppressed mindless automaton with lack of intelligence that society associates with this idea).

"As a woman submits to her husband, she looks over his shoulder to see the Lord who is saying, 'You are ultimately doing this not for him but for me.'" Brian Chapell, Each For the Other, page 79.

Yet by doing this, we not only honor the Lord, and strengthen our husbands, but also reap blessings for ourselves.

Our pastor taught on that very passage Sunday! Though he was exhorting the husbands to love their wives as directed...so as to gain the sort of wife and mother the Lord intended. I agree--we get the better end of the deal!
