View in my Kitchen Part 2

So today's task was to can pears for the first time. All by myself.

We got the pears at a farmer's market on Saturday, and they are HUGE! I could only fit one per pint! (yes, even after cutting them in quarters!) So I have 10 lovely pints sitting on my counter. And the sound of the jars sealing makes me smile.

It was a fair bit of work, but I just kept thinking about how much this was going to bless my family, and it encouraged me to keep going!

Pears are on sale here this week - 3 lbs for $0.99! So I am going to pick up so more pears to can, and some pears to make pear butter. The plan will be to do this Saturday morning so that a little sweet girl will have her daddy to play with whilst I am canning away!

I have a yummy recipe of my mom's for her pear relish if you would be interested!

She gives me some for Christmas in a basket along with other homemade goodies. I am thinking of doing some gifts like that this year myself. =) Good job on the canning. I need to be doing some putting up myself!

In our fammiy we say gleefully..."There's a happy sound" everytime we hear the snap of one of our canning jars as it seals!

Can you tell me how to link to the prayers for noah banner? I would like to put it on my blog
ruralwritings.blogspot.com
Thanks
Niki

Have been enjoying your posts and wonderful recipes. Thank you.

I love pears....more than apples actually. I think it's because it's easier to bite into one than an apple :) Canning sounds great. Thanks for reminding me to get started early enough before Christmas. It's fun giving homemade gifts.

Wow where I live in S. Calif the cheapest pears are 99cents a lb. Great you found such a good sale. I can pears too{when I used to find better prices}..but one time I let them get a bit too ripe and when canned they turned to mush!! :-) It is sooo fun to find other women canning. I have asked at stores for canning supplies and the workers look at me like I am from Mars! Maybe they think cookies only come in bags in the cookie isle too!! You are sooo smart to can and pass on the tradition. It is work...but worth while!!
