(this is the book we will be using...)
Mr. Pear is on a business trip, and we need a distraction because Day 1 (yesterday) did not go great. So I decided to try to move up a homeschooling project I had been planning for later in the fall. But to do that I need your help!
Miss Pear has a very active curiosity, and once something piques her interest she keeps coming back to it to explore it until we have taken it as far as we can. She has an ongoing fascination with the mail. She loves getting mail, and if the postman has to actually come to the door to deliver a parcel, that is the best! (I blame the grandparents for this as they send her lots of cards and stuff). The funny thing about Miss Pear is that she does not actually care what comes in the mail, just as long as there is a piece for her! Recently she discovered that not everybody gets their mail the same way we do (a bank of boxes down the street), and this was very curious to her. So we are looking into it.
I was wondering if you could please help us look into this by leaving a comment answering a few questions for us:
- Do you live in an apartment, house....? (If you could include the region or state you live in - whatever you are comfortable with - that would be fun too because I can show her where that is on a map...she loves maps)
- Where is your mail delivered to? (Box at your house, post office, etc.)
- Are letters delivered differently than packages?
- Where do you mail a letter from? (do you have to go to the post office or do you mail it from somewhere else.)
- Where do you mail a package from?
Thank you so much!

We live in an apartment in Ontario, Canada.
Where is your mail delivered to? (Box at your house, post office, etc.)
We go to the post office and get mail in our post office box.
Are letters delivered differently than packages?
Letters are put in the box but when we get a package they put a little card in our mail with our name on it and a number. When you hand in the card you must show identification and they match them up.
Where do you mail a letter from? (do you have to go to the post office or do you mail it from somewhere else.)
We have a box outside the post office for letters and packages but if you need postage you have to go inside. Our boxes outside are divided in local area (area with our same postal code) and others.
Where do you mail a package from?
A package you have to go inside the post office and get it weighed and then pay for it.
I hope this helps you Miss Pear.
Dear Miss Pear,
We live in a house in the United States. Our mail is delivered to a mailbox at the bottom of the driveway. Our mail lady drives down the street in her truck, reaches out the door, and puts the mail in our box.
When we get packages, if they are small, they go in the mailbox. If they are large, the mail lady leaves them on our doorstep and rings the doorbell.
When we mail a letter, we put it out in the mailbox with the flag up, and our mail lady takes it away when she comes. When we mail a package, we take it to the post office.
I hope you have fun learning about mail!
1. Do you live in an apartment, house....?
We live in a single family home in central Florida (Orlando area)
2. Where is your mail delivered to? Our mail is delivered to our mailbox at the end of our driveway.
3. Are letters delivered differently than packages? Letters go in the mailbox, unless we also have a package, then they will bring all of it to our door and ring the bell and then just leave it at the door.
4. Where do you mail a letter from? If we have the stamps we need, we will mail a letter in our mailbox by putting it in the box and putting the flag up. Otherwise we would go to the post office.
5. Where do you mail a package from? We mail most packages at the post office, unless it is being shipped UPS or FedEx.
1. Do you live in an apartment, house....? Townhouse in Maryland, USA.
2. Where is your mail delivered to? Mail box on the street in front of the house. The box is in a planter.
3. Are letters delivered differently than packages? Packages are put in the mailbox, slipped in between the screen door or, if too big, a ticket is put on the door to pick it up at the post office.
4. Where do you mail a letter from? If I have stamps, I put it in the mail box out front and put the flag up.
5. Where do you mail a package from? The post office usually, but we could use FedEx or UPS.
E-mail me! Hubs works for the USPS!!!
I saw that you commented at the Cultures for Health starter giveaway at Passionate Homemaking. I’m hosting the same one, just through tomorrow night (9/24). You can enter here: http://www.kitchenstewardship.com/2009/09/16/giveaway-cultures-for-health-starter-cultures/
Good luck!

1. We live in a house (and your mom knows offline where we live.) ;-)
2. Our mail is delivered to our house but we have to walk up our long driveway to get it.
3. Packages are delivered to our door if they don't fit in the mailbox.
4. I can mail a letter from my home box, but for some reason I usually drive to a drop off box at the post office.
5. I mail packages from the post office.
Happy Learning Miss Pear!
We live in a single family house in Virginia
We get our mail at our house. Our mailbox is at the curb next to our driveway.
Are letters delivered differently than packages?
Our letters and small packages are put in our mailbox. Larger packages on our front porch.
We can put our outgoing mail in our own mailbox. then we put up our little flag to let the mail man know there is mail for pick up.
We mail packages from the post office
We live in a Mobile Home, Our mail is delivered in a few different ways.
We have a box like post office boxes down the street for letters and small packages, if there is a medium package, a key is put in our box and we open a larger box beneath it.
If we have a Big package (homeschool Curriculum comes to mind) it doesn't fit in the box, so our mail lady brings it to our door and knocks.
If we have to mail letters, we have an out box with our mail box, and if we are mailing a package we take it to a store or to the post office. If we use the big post office we use the machines to weigh and meter it ourself, the smaller post office the workers help us.
We live just north of Detroit in Michigan in a rural community.
I live in an apartment in NYC, on the 12th floor.
Our mail is delivered to our mailboxes, in a wall long bank of boxes, and we use a little key to open it. Packages are left outside our apartment door in the common hallway by the UPS man or the mailman.
Our mailman doesn't pick up mail, though, so I have to go to the post office. I get stamps delivered so I usually just use the big blue mailboxes on the street. And if I have to mail a package, I go to the UPS store on the next block!
