A Treat for My Sweeties

It has been one of those weeks where we really needed a midweek treat. Just a little something thoughtful to combat the craziness right now. So I made butter tarts.

I was talking with my neighbor this evening about something and shared one with her, and she asked me of these were the authentic Canadian kind, apparently the kind you get in Canada are different than in the US, not that I have bought any here.

So here is my question: My dear American readers, do you make butter tarts? Do yours just have raisins and the butter mix in them?

My dear Canadian readers, is this an authentic Canadian food and I just didn't know?

If you read from somewhere else I would love to hear if you know about these sweet morsels!

I've never made them or eaten them, and only know of them from Canadian and British people (ie the person I know that makes them lives in Canada and is British, and I've heard of them on British tv shows), so I'm afraid I'm not much help. I am pretty sure there are recipes in my Mennonite cookbooks, but I haven't made them (I grew up in a place with a lot of Mennonite/Amish groups).

I've never made them, but the ladies at our church LOVE to buy the frozen boxes of them from Sam's!! LOL!! A friend from the north told me that the boxed tarts are horrible compared to the real thing. So maybe this is a nothern US delicacy???

All I know is that yours look DELICIOUS!!!!! Any chance you'd share your recipe??? Pretty please? :)
